Boulder City started in the early 1930s as a government town for the workers building Hoover Dam. The federal government planned the streets, the parks and the first homes. Some of those early cottages still stand in the historic district near downtown. The town has kept its small size on purpose. Voters limit how many new homes can be built each year, and gambling is not allowed in the city. The result is a quiet town where many houses have had several owners and many repairs.
The housing here is a mix of ages. The historic district holds small homes from the dam years, most of them updated many times over. Newer streets filled in slowly in the decades after. Some older roofs still carry evaporative coolers. The town sits higher than Las Vegas, so it runs a little cooler, with colder winter nights. Lake Mead and its rocky hills are close by on the east side, and open desert wraps around the rest of town.
Old plumbing is the biggest water risk here. Some older homes still have galvanized steel pipe, which rusts from the inside and starts to leak. Copper lines face the same hard Lake Mead water as the rest of the valley. Swamp coolers can overflow onto the roof and into the ceiling. In summer, monsoon storms drop heavy rain on the hills, and the runoff moves through washes and down sloped streets. Brush at the edge of town can also burn in dry, windy weather.
What Goes Wrong in Boulder City Homes

Mold Remediation in Boulder City
In a dry desert town, mold means water has been somewhere it should not be for a while. In older Boulder City homes, that usually points to an old drain, a worn tub seal or a roof cooler.

Fire and Smoke Damage in Boulder City
A fire in a small, older home reaches more than one room. Soot drifts through the house, smoke gets into fabric and ducts, and the water used to put it out soaks the floors. We clean it up and rebuild.

Asked in Boulder City
Do you come out to Boulder City?
Yes. Boulder City is the farthest town we serve, about 25 miles from our shop on East Sahara Avenue. We answer the phone 24/7, 365 days a year, and send an IICRC certified crew out to your home.
Can you work on a home in the Boulder City historic district?
Yes. We dry, clean and repair older homes with care, and we try to save original materials when we can. If your home is a listed historic property, check with the city about rules for outside changes before rebuild work starts.
Why do older Boulder City homes leak so often?
Many have pipes that are decades old. Galvanized steel rusts inside and narrows until it leaks. Copper wears thin from hard water. Old swamp coolers and aging roofs add more ways for water to get in, often where you cannot see it.
