Behind Plaster and Tile in Older Downtown Homes

Homes in John S. Park, Huntridge and the Scotch 80s often have plaster walls and original tile baths. A slow drip from an old shower valve can run for years behind that tile. The plaster holds water and the wood studs behind it stay damp. Nothing shows on the surface until grout darkens or a musty smell hangs in the hall. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging to trace how far the damp goes. Only then do we cut, so we remove the moldy material and leave the sound wall alone.

Older kitchens in these homes have the same problem under the sink. A loose trap or a worn supply valve drips into the cabinet floor for months. The particle board swells and turns dark, and the wall behind it follows.

AC Closets and Attics in the Northwest

In Centennial Hills, Providence and Skye Canyon, the air handler often sits in an upstairs closet or the attic. It makes gallons of water a day in July and August. If the drain line clogs, the pan overflows into drywall and insulation. The unit keeps running, so the wet spot stays wet all summer. That is where we find mold most often in these newer homes. We fix the moisture source first, then build containment with plastic walls and negative air pressure. HEPA air scrubbers clean the air while we remove what cannot be saved. We also check the ceiling below the closet, because the water often lands there first.

After a Slab Leak or a Storm Leak

Charleston Heights and Twin Lakes have many ranch homes on slab. When a line under the slab leaks, water wicks into carpet pad, baseboards and the bottom of the drywall. Monsoon leaks near downtown do the same from the top down. Either way, mold can start within two days on wet paper and wood. We dry the structure, remove what is growing, and treat the area with 100% organic products. You get a written scope your insurance adjuster can read. Most jobs finish with the room ready for our own crew to rebuild. You do not have to hire a second company to put the walls and floors back.

Questions

Asked in Las Vegas

Why is there mold in my Las Vegas home when the air is so dry?

Dry air does not stop mold when one spot stays wet. A slow shower leak, a dripping sink trap or an AC pan that overflows gives it all the water it needs. That is why we look behind walls and under floors, not just at the air.

Do you test for mold in older Las Vegas homes near downtown?

We inspect with moisture meters and thermal cameras to find where water is feeding growth. In older plaster homes we trace the damp before cutting anything. That keeps the repair smaller and tells you exactly which walls or floors are affected.

What products do you use for mold removal in Las Vegas?

We use 100% organic treatments after the moldy material is removed. The work area is sealed with plastic and kept under negative air pressure. HEPA air scrubbers filter the air so spores do not spread to other rooms in your home.
